Floods Operation
Kenya Red Cross Society launched an Emergency Appeal on 14th May 2010 to assist communities affected by floods in various parts of the country. This followed heavy rains that resulted in flooding in many parts of the country, after four successive seasons of drought, causing moderate to severe food insecurity in the affected regions. The flood waters claimed the lives of 94 people countrywide. More than 71,954 people were displaced and 141,164 others affected by the floods. Large acres of land under cultivation were destroyed by flood waters, thus interfering with the food security situation of the affected families.
