Kenya: La Niña Rapid Assessment - Southeastern and Coastal Marginal Agricultural Clusters, January 18-21 2011

Purpose: Preliminary gauge of effects of poor Short Rains performance on crop production and food security.

Objective: Early warning data and reports from affected districts indicate poor spatial distribution, poor temporal distribution, and early cessation of the Short Rains. The Kenya Food Security Steering Group (KFSSG) has begun conducting a detailed Short Rains Assessment (field work 14-29 January 2011). The objective of the USAID/OCHA/CRS La Niña Rapid Assessment is to obtain a preliminary indication of the nature and scale of the situation and determine possible appropriate responses prior to the release of the results of the comprehensive analysis done by the KFSSG.
