Summary: Further torrential rains have been experienced in Kenya, especially in the North Rift and South Rift regions. The rains have affected hundreds of households now forced to seek temporary shelter in market centres, while some have been integrated in the community living in safer areas. An assessment carried out by KRCS indicates that more than 700 households have been affected by floods in Kwanza, North Rift Region alone. The KRCS is currently conducting assessments in the affected areas to ascertain the extent of damage caused by flooded water. The findings will enable the National Society to determine the actual needs of the affected families and help in defining the level of response actions focusing on the provision of food and non-food items (NFI), search and rescue services, health education, water and sanitation services.
