UNHCR will begin airlifting diesel fuel to the three refugee camps affected by floods in the Dadaab region of in north-eastern Kenya on Saturday. The fuel will be used to pump fresh water in the camps that have been isolated due to flooding. Six tons of fuel will be flown into Dadaab on a WFP aircraft, with additional fuel deliveries by air to follow. Besides keeping water pumps going, the fuel will ensure that aid workers can travel into the camps and that police can maintain their anti-bandit patrols. The flood waters now appear to be subsiding a little, but the camps are still all cut off from access roads. Arrangements are being made to airlift food into the camps in December if the situation does not improve.
