Biophysical Indicators

Rainfall report;

A total of 128.3 mm was received which was 198 % of the normal. Rainfall was received during the 1st and 2nd weeks of the month. The spatial and temporal distribution was poor.

Vegetation condition;

Pasture and browse conditions were good across the County as confirmed by the 3 Month VCI index of 70.27 indicating no agricultural deficit during the month.

Socio Economic Indicators (Impact Indicators)

Production indicators;

  • The crop harvest was over though the yields had been affected by excessive water and diseases (MLD for Maize and Tuta Absoluta for horticultural crops) hence below the expected. Livestock body condition was good in all the species.

  • Milk production improved though still below normal. No unusual Livestock migration and deaths reported

Access indicators;

  • Terms of trade was above normal favoring the pastoralists. Return distance to water sources was shorter than normal ranges.

  • Milk consumption increased compared to last month though below normal range.

Utilization Indicators;

  • The proportion of children at risk was lower than normal 18%.

  • Households were employing fewer and less severe coping strategies compared to normal.
