Environmental Indicators

Few Parts of the district received light showers in last week of the month,

The condition of pasture is very poor in all sample areas.

The health condition of livestock has worsened in most sample areas.

Livestock body condition is poor. in all sample areas.

Shoat prices have slightly increased in most sample areas.

Human welfare Indicators

Milk is not available in all sample areas.

Terms of trade has worsened

Security situation is normal in all sample areas.

Overall Trend Assessment

The drought stress status has not improved in all divisions compared to the past month.

Urgent interventions should be increased in all divisions.

1 ENVIRONMENTAL INDICATORS

1.1) Rainfall

Few parts of the district received light showers in the last week of the month. The Most parts of the district remained dry..

1.2. Forage

The condition of pasture has deteriorated in all part of the district due to the prevailing drought.

Relief fodder is provided to pastoralists to feed week animals due to lack of pasture.

The average distance to pasture is 30-45 km in most parts of the district.

1.3. Water Sources.

The river sources have dried in most parts of the district.

The availability of water in Modogshe in Sericho division has worsened. As a result water trucking is done in Modogashe trading centre to address the problem of water.

Northern water services board has provided 3200 ltrs of fuel and fast moving spare parts to the district to alleviate water problem in the district.

2 RURAL ECONOMY INDICATORS

The livestock health condition has worsened in Kinna Division. The disease has caused many deaths in Kinna division.

2.2 Livestock Prices

a) Cattle

The average price of cattle has reduced from Kshs. 4040 in the past month to Kshs. 3702. The poor condition of cattle has affected the price of cattle.
