Biophysical Indicators

  • No rainfall received in the month of September 2016.The drought indicators worsened compared to August 2016.

  • The current county average vegetation condition index (VCI 3 month) for September is 53.The VCI Isiolo North is 54 and Isiolo South Sub County is 50.

  • Current water sources are Boreholes and Shallow wells.
    Most centres in Oldonyiro ward as Noloroi, Mokori and Lengwenye in have a serious water shortage. Critical facilities as schools and health centres are facing the same challenge in Oldonyiro.
    Emerging issues;
    Resource based conflict increased over the month. Tension is still high in Gafarsa, Tanna and Eldera of Garbatulla Sub County after one woman and two minors were killed.

Socio Economic Indicators (Impact Indicators)

  • Livestock body condition deteriorated compared to August 2016.This is due to increase distance to water and pasture and conflicts.

  • Three persons were killed around Belgesh by the neighbouring communities.

  • Access to pasture and water is constrained by prevailing conflict in Bassa, Hawaye and Belgesh.

  • In migration from other counties is Abnormal. In migration was from Marsabit, Moyale, Wajir and Garissa.

  • Average MUAC measurement is 15%.The percentage of at Risk children increased compared to last month by remained constant.MUAC measurement is high in Oldonyiro and Merti at 23% and 25% respectively.

  • The county drought status is Normal, Worsening
