Biophysical Indicators

• The county received an average of 12.2 mm of rainfall during the month of June 2023 which was below the long-term average amount.

• The 3-month VCI was 37.42 indicating normal vegetation conditions and was below the long-term average for the month.

• Forage condition was generally fair across all livelihood zones.

• Both Livestock trekking distances from grazing areas to water sources and households trekking distances to water were below the longterm average distances.

Socio Economic Indicators (Impact Indicators)

Production indicators:

• Livestock body condition of camels and goats was ranging from fair to good in all livelihood zones while that of cattle and sheep was generally fair.

• No livestock death due to drought was reported in the county during the month.

• Average household milk production was 2.5 litres which was higher than the long-term average amount of 1.7 litres

Access indicators:

• The average milk consumption at household level was 1.4litres compared to a long-term average amount of 1.5 litres • Market prices of cattle was above the short-term ranges while that of goats was within the normal prices ranges.

• The terms of trade were 34.0kg of maize with the sale of a goat which was below the short-term average of 44.0.
Utilization indicators:

• The mean coping strategy index (CSI) was 10.79 for the month as compared to a long-term average of 11.1 indicating households are employing stressed and crisis coping mechanisms.

• The proportion of children below five years of age at risk of malnutrition based on MUAC was 13.7 percent compared with the long-term average of 12.7 percent.

• The mean food consumption score for the month was 34.71 which was below the long-term average of 35.8
