Biophysical Indicators

  • The vegetation cover continues to improve as indicated by increasing vegetation condition index value from 55.47 to the current 62.24for the county average. All sub counties are in the normal condition category and no drought. The lowest recorded is 52.7 for township and the highest is 75.63.

  • The state of water sources at 5 as most water pans have water though on high use.

Socio Economic Indicators (Impact Indicators)

  • Livestock body conditions continue to improve and most animals are rated with a score of 5 except for few lactating herd that are in score of 3-4. The condition is expected to fall as most forage are dry and may lose nutritional value but is expected to maintain till water condition and trekking significantly change.

  • The average milk produced during the month increased from 33lts to 38 litres, the performance was good but not at the peak as percentage birth rate is still low. Milk prices continue to reduce as the production increases and the current retail price for unprocessed milk was kshs45 per 750ml bottle.

  • The percentages of children at risk to malnutrition continue to decrease. The current MUAC levels reduced from 14.47% to 13.74%. The condition is attributed to reduced child related illness, improving availability of milk and nutritional intervention carried out by the department of health.
