Biophysical Indicators

• The county received an average of 10.45 mm of rainfall during the month of July 2023 which was below the long-term average amount.

• The 3-month VCI was 51.12 indicating very good vegetation condition which was above the long-term average for the month.

• Forage condition was generally fair across all livelihood zones.

• Both Livestock trekking distances from grazing areas to water sources and households trekking distances to water were slightly above the longterm average distances.

Socio Economic Indicators (Impact Indicators)

Production indicators:

• Livestock body condition of camels and goats was ranging from fair to good in all livelihood zones while that of cattle and sheep was generally fair.

• No livestock deaths due to drought were reported in the county during the month.

• Average household milk production was 2.4 litres which was above the long-term average amount.

Access indicators:

• The average milk consumption at household level was 1.3 litres which was below the long-term average amount.

• Market prices of both cattle and goat was above the short-term average price.

• The terms of trade were 34.0kg of maize for the sale of a goat which was below the short-term average of 45.0.

Utilization indicators:

• The mean coping strategy index (CSI) was 10.34 for the month as compared to a long-term average of 12.3.

• The proportion of children at risk of malnutrition below five years of age based on MUAC was 10.7 percent compared with the long-term average of 11.4 percent.

• The mean food consumption score for the month was 31.72 which was below the long-term average of 38.1
