The food security situation remained stable during the month of December with prices of most food commodities remaining stable as well. Most harvesting of the long season maize was completed in December further adding to the maize stocks. The rainfall continued into most part of December with flooding being reported in some parts of the country. The enhanced short rains led to good crop performance in most part of the country with a good harvest expected. Most of the short rains maize have been harvested in Nyanza and Western provinces. In Eastern province, maize is at knee high to grain filling stage while harvesting of most of the legumes has already started. Harvesting of early planted maize is expected to start in late January to early February.
