HIGHLIGHTS as of 3rd April

Security

  • The Dadaab humanitarian family lost a member on 1st April. In the early morning hours, three armed men accessed Windle Trust Kenya (WTK)’s compound in Hagadera camp. They killed a teacher and injured three security guards. WTK is UNHCR’s partner for secondary school education.
In consequence, WTK relocated its teachers from Hagadera. UN agencies limited activities to essential services and plan to resume full operations in Hagadera on Tuesday, 7th April. Activities in the other four Dadaab camps have not been affected.

  • On 2nd and 3rd April, UNHCR and its health partners contributed to the emergency response to the attack on Garissa University; providing trucks, ambulances and medical supplies from the Dadaab Refugee Operation.
The Dadaab camps are hosted by Garissa County and located about 95km from Garissa town.
