Description

The area where floods are spreading is increasing. The President of the country called the floods "a natural disaster, possibly the biggest in 80 years".
A local emergency has been declared in 10 regions (Akmola, Aktobe, Atyrau, West Kazakhstan, Karaganda, Kostanay, Pavlodar, North Kazakhstan, Ulytau (part of the former Karaganda region), Abai (part of the former East Kazakhstan region).

Flooded remain 3,698 private houses in six regions. Overflows continue on 155 sections of the roads. 58 settlements are without transport communication, delivery of food and medicines is carried out.

74,942 people were evacuated from the emergency zones, 17,914 of them children. 14,460 people, including 7,269 children, are in temporary accommodation centres.

In 7 regions due to precipitation, temperature rise and snow melting, the water level in water bodies is expected to rise further. Peak water level in West Kazakhstan and North Kazakhstan regions will be reached next week, and after that will move to Atyrau region.

According to weather forecasts, warm weather will continue in the near future. Intensive melting of snow and filling of reservoirs will continue. Today, the area of snow cover in the country as a whole is 15%, and in the northern, eastern and central regions - about 40%.

As a result of floods in the regions of Kazakhstan killed 5,711 farm animals, 1,013 of which have already been utilised. More than 60,000 farm animals have been relocated so far.

Two people died in Atyrau region. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, they drove a tractor towards a flooded apartment block, drove off the road into a ditch and overturned.
