WFP Operations in Jordan

• In April, WFP provided monthly food assistance to 277,000 refugees in camps and communities, at reduced levels (USD 21 per person per month) due to continuous funding shortfall.

• In April, 60,500 Syrian refugees returned to Syria, including 30,000 who had been recipients of WFP food assistance.
Consequently, WFP suspended these 30,000 refugees from its monthly food assistance, which accounts for 10 percent of the total refugees receiving WFP assistance. This exclusion was based on routine individual-level eligibility checks of refugees residing in Jordan.

• WFP and the International Medical Corps (IMC) continued nutrition education in Zaatari camp. By the end of April, over 600 pregnant and breastfeeding women and children were engaged through educational sessions and peer support groups to encourage healthy dietary practices.

• In April, WFP and the Ministry of Education continued implementing the National School Feeding Programme.
The programme provided date bars and high-protein biscuits to 430,000 students in camps and communities, and healthy meals to 90,000 students in communities.

• As part of the technical assistance provided to the National Aid Fund (NAF), Jordan's primary social assistance provider,
WFP supported NAF with beneficiary data validation for around 2,300 households through field home visits. These visits aimed to verify the information of the households registered to receive assistance and inform NAF’s decision regarding their inclusion in the cash assistance programme.

• Under its livelihood and climate response activities, WFP launched the field innovation schools project that targets 50-60 vulnerable Jordanian and refugee youth from Mafraq, Irbid, Jerash and Ajloun. In April, 25 young people received a two-day training on need-based market research and innovation and conducted four field days mapping the agri-food challenges in North Jordan Valley and Mafraq.
