Resettlement is the transfer of refugees from an asylum country to another country that has agreed to admit and ultimately grant them residence. Resettlement is a durable solution and protection tool, as well as an important act of responsibility sharing and solidarity with Jordan.
UNHCR identifies highly vulnerable refugees, assesses their eligibility, makes recommendation to the receiving countries, supports resettlement countries’ selection missions and facilitates departure arrangements in line with available quotas.
Some 111,000 refugees in Jordan are in need of resettlement, about 14 per cent of the population. However, only about 1 per cent can be considered for resettlement due to the limited slots available.
