Last winter, Life for Relief and Development launched a program to provide wheelchairs to handicapped Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, as well as in the refugee camps of Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon.
Thus far, the program has been a huge success. By the middle of April, some 1,000 wheelchairs were distributed, and hundreds more are scheduled for delivery.
During Phase 1 of the program inside Palestine, Life was able to deliver 281 new wheelchairs to handicapped children and young adults in both Gaza and the West Bank.
These recipients were chosen because of their particularly difficult economic situations. Many of the recipients were both physically and mentally handicapped.
The wheelchairs were delivered to the homes of the recipients, who reside in the following areas:
Gaza City Rafah Meghazi Beit Layhia Jabaliya Khan Younis Jenin Refugee Camp Jalazon Refugee Camp Deir Amar Refugee Camp Qalandia Refugee Camp Shuafat Refugee Camp
Another 700 wheelchairs have been distributed throughout most of Jordan’s refugee camps.
A TV crew from the MBC Satellite Network recently accompanied Life’s team during the distribution of wheelchairs in Jordan, and they produced an excellent report and interview, which can be seen by clicking here.
