Japan - Tropical storms activity (GDACS, JTWC, JMA) (ECHO Daily Flash of 14 July 2025)

  • A new tropical storm named NARI formed over the NorthwestPacific Ocean in the morning (UTC) of 11 July and started moving north toward the eastern coast of Honshu island - the main island of Japan - as a tropical depression. On 14 July at 3.00, its centre was located over the ocean, approximately 245 km south-east of the Greater Tokyo area, with maximum sustained winds of 83 km/h (tropical storm).
  • NARI is expected to continue northward along the coast of eastern Honshu and Hokkaido island on 14-15 July as a tropical storm.
  • Meanwhile, a tropical depression named SEVEN formed over the East China Sea on 12 July and started moving toward southern Japan. It made landfall over the western Kyushu island in the very late evening of 13 July. On 14 July at 3.00, its centre was located inland over the central Kyushu island as a tropical depression. It is forecast to continue inland over the western Honshu island on 14-15 July, remaining a tropical depression.
  • Over the next 72 hours, heavy rainfall and strong winds are forecast over most of Japan.
