Tropical Cyclone CHAN-HOM is moving north over the Pacific Ocean, towards the eastern coast of southern Japan. On 8 October at 0.00 UTC, its centre was approximately 300 km east of Amami Islands (Ryukyu Archipelago) and 460 km south-east of Miyazaki City (Kyushu Island), with maximum sustained winds of 130 km/h.
CHAN-HOM is forecast to strengthen as it moves along the central-south eastern coast of Japan. CHAN-HOM could reach the Greater Tokyo Area on 10 October, with maximum sustained winds of 110-120 km/h.
Warnings for high waves have been issued for Amami Islands and Kyushu Islands on 8 October. Rain is expected over most of southern and central Japan on 8-9 October.
