Heavy snowfall has continued to affect northern and central Japan since 20 January, causing casualties and significant disruptions.

According to the Japanese Fire and Disaster Management Agency (FDMA), as of 22 January, 11 people have been injured due to snow-related incidents, including five in Niigata prefecture, and two each in Aomori, Akita, and Yamagata. Traffic disruption has also been reported.

More snowfall is expected over central-western Japan on 23 and 24 January.
