Japan - Floods and landslides (JMA, Media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 09 July 2023)

Heavy rainfall and landslides have been affecting the Shimane Prefecture and other western areas of Japan since yesterday (8 July). The Shimane Prefecture is most affected, with 20 river overflows and 15 landslides recorded.

Local authorities urged more than 370,000 people in the prefecture to leave their homes and go to evacuation centers.

Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has warned of the risk of continuing flooding, landslides, and other torrential rain-related incidents over the next 24 hours in the western, southwestern, and central parts of the country.
