Japan - Earthquake (GDACS, USGS, media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 27 November 2024)

  • An earthquake of magnitude 6.1 M at a depth of 10 km occurred on 26 November at 13:47 UTC (22:47 local time) in the sea at approximately 30 km west of the Noto Peninsula coasts, Honshu Island, central Japan. The epicentre was located approximately 42 km west-north-west of Hakui city, in the Ishikawa prefecture.
  • At least three aftershocks up to 4.9 M hit the same area on 26 November.
  • USGS PAGER estimates that up to 23,000 people were exposed to strong and 1,1 million to moderate shaking.
  • According to media, as of 17 November, one person has been injured in the Tsubata town in Kahoku District, in central Ishikawa prefecture, and train disruptions have been reported between Toyama and Kanazawa.
