The Diet has passed US$ 49.8 billion supplementary budget to fund immediate efforts to rebuild from the 11 March Disaster, focusing on debris removal, restoration of infrastructures, cash grant to the affected populations and construction of temporary housings.

Assessment by the Government shows that the living conditions in the evacuation centres along the coastal lines are worse than the other centres, and health, sanitation and privacy are still the main concerns.

A survey conducted at the end of April by the Miyagi Prefectural Government revealed that the calorie intake of evacuees fell short of the target of 2,000 kilocalories at around 90% of the 266 evacuation centres in Miyagi Prefecture.

More than 40,000 persons received unemployment allowance in the Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima Prefectures which was almost 2.5 times increase from the same period in 2010.
