Highlights / Key Priorities

  • The death toll from the 11 March earthquake/tsunami and aftershocks has exceeded 15,000.

  • The Government announced a roadmap for the next three months recovery phase aiming to close the most of evacuation centres by the end of August.

  • The Government and TEPCO are likely to review its roadmap that seeks to put the reactors under control within six to nine months due to the larger-than-expected damages inflicted by the disaster.

  • Evacuation of residents in a planned evacuation zone outside the 20 km evacuation zone has started on 15 May.
