Culture Ministry presents donation to Japan

BANGKOK, 3 May 2011 (NNT) – The Ministry of Culture has presented a two million baht donation in cash received from charity concert ‘Magokoro 2011,’ organized on 4 April 2011 in Bangkok to assist Japan, the country devasted by disasters nearly two months ago.

Culture Minister Nipit Intarasombat presented the donation to Japanese Ambassador to Thailand Seiji Kojima. The amount was the proceeds, with no expenses deducted, from the concert held early last month. He then presented commemorative trophies to the 21 organizations sponsoring the charity concert.

The minister stated that the tragic disasters had caused enormous losses of lives and property as well as affected the lives of the people in Japan, which would take a long time to rehabilitate. He continued that hence the concert was arranged to show the friendly relationship between the two countries.

The concert featured performances of Thai artists, Suntaraporn band, as well as a Japanese chorus. Booths selling foods and souvenirs were also set up in the event, which was held at the Thailand Cultural Center on 4 April 2011; at 14.00 hrs.

Meanwhile, the Japanese ambassador expressed his appreciation for the donation, which will be given to the Japanese Red Cross to assist quake and tsunami victims. He also thanked all sides in Thailand; from the royal family, the government, the public sector to Thai citizens for the assistance.
