As of 19 January, AMDA’s team of 10 aid workers has been providing assistance to the evacuees at Wajima Junior High School, an evacuation shelter in quake-hit Wajima, Ishikawa Prefecture.
The number of people who have been evacuated at the shelter has decreased to 467 from what used to be around 560 in the past few days.
AMDA’s nurses have been constantly conducting daily rounds to see if anyone is feeling unwell, and encouraging everyone to ask for medical assistance if needed. As of now, four cases of COVID-19 infections and three cases of infectious gastroenteritis have been identified, which shows an overall decline in infections.
Although more than two weeks have passed since the earthquake occurred, people have still been forced to persevere through difficult circumstances.
For example, because the local water supply and sewer system has not been fully restored yet, the sewage from the shelter (which is located on the hill) gets spilled out onto the streets in the central part of the city after flushing the toilet.
(On a side note, the current staff members include AMDA's sixth relief team (one doctor and one coordinator) that left Okayama on 17 July.)
