Report—NGO Collaboration Center
“Revival Restaurant” temporarily opened in Ohtsuchi-cho, Iwate Prefecture (The NGO Collaboration Center for Hanshin Quake Rehabilitation)
The first restaurant which a victim runs tentatively called “Revival Restaurant” opened temporarily on May 2nd.
Mr. Usuzawa, who survived the Tsunami, runs and manages it. When the Tsunami attacked his house, he almost stopped breathing because of surging water in his house. Fortunately, he managed to break the roof with his bare hands and finally could breathe and survive.
This restaurant was established as a working place and a symbol for rehabilitation of the victims. It can be a gathering space for neighbors. Vegetables produced around Mount Shinmoe volcano in Miyazaki prefecture, where farmers have been affected since its eruption in January 2011, will be cooked in this restaurant with messages of “cheer from Miyazaki”. This project has the strong message “Victim support other victims.”
On the day a gale was blowing in Ohtsuchi and the prefab house for the restaurant had damaged accidentally. However, the staff has been working hard for official open on May 4th. We will announce the details gradually. Please be looking forward to the following stories about this restaurant.
For this project, Mr. Matsuura, a volunteer of our organization (the NGO Collaboration Center for HANSHIN QUAKE Rehabilitation), worked hard from the beginning of April.
