Emergency Assistance in response to Hurricane “Beryl” disaster in Jamaica

  1. Today, July 12, upon the request of the Government of Jamaica, the Government of Japan has decided to provide emergency relief goods (tents, sleeping pads, portable jerry cans, etc) through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), in response to the damages caused by Hurricane Beryl.
  2. In light of the humanitarian perspective and the traditional friendship between Japan and Jamaica, Japan has decided to provide emergency assistance to Jamaica to support the people affected by Hurricane Beryl.

In Jamaica, Hurricane Beryl attacked the country on July 3 and has resulted in a large number of those affected including the loss of lives, and significant physical damage. The southern region of Jamaica in particular has suffered significant damage, and livelihood infrastructure has been affected. 2 person died, 1,875 people evacuated (as of July 11).
