In October, 5,722 refugees and migrants arrived in Italy by sea. Most originated from the Syrian Arab Republic (20%), Bangladesh (15%), and Tunisia (12%). 20 per cent were children. Other people reached Italy via land and air.
On 4 October, the High Commissioner for Refugees (HC) participated in the session on migration in the context of the G7 Interior Affairs ministerial meeting, addressing forced displacement and protection.
On 16 October, the Municipality of Brescia officially signed the UNHCR Charter for Integration to strengthen integration of beneficiaries of international protection and foster the exchange of practices, experiences, tools and services among signatory cities.
