According to the Italian Civil Protection, as of 26 July, in the past 24 hours 22 new wildfires have affected southern and central Italy (in particular Sicily, Calabria, Sardinia, Puglia, Abruzzo and Lazio Regions) resulting in further evacuations and damage. Among these wildfires, 12 were contained or fully extinguished. The Italian Civil Protection received 24 requests of intervention of the national fleet, of which 5 remain active.

In Sicily Island, a number of new wildfires started on 25 July across the Catania Province (eastern Sicily). According to the JRC European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS), the total burnt area is more than 1,000 hectares. 30 people were evacuated in Nicolosi Municipality (very close to the Catania City area). In Calabria Region, a bakery and three buildings were destroyed by fire and 15 people were evacuated people in the area of Strongoli Municipality (Crotone Province, eastern Calabria).

Over the next 24 hours, according to JRC EFFIS, the fire danger forecast is expected from high to extreme across the already affected Sicily, Calabria and Puglia Regions.

On 27 July, the Italian CP authorities have informed that there is no further need for UCPM support
