Italy - Severe weather (media, Aeronautica Militare (AM) - Servizio Meteorologico) (ECHO Daily Flash of 21 August 2025)

  • Over the last couple of days, Italy has been affected by severe weather, including heavy rains and landslides, resulting in one fatality and damage. Most affected are northern and central Italy with five regions on orange alert (Veneto, Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, Liguria and Tuscany) and several on yellow alert.

  • As of 21 August, media reports one person found dead after they went missing in the province of Enna, Sicily, following a flash flood on 19 August. In Tuscany, Grosseto province, at least three people were rescued from a car stuck in a flooded underpass. Also in Tuscany, public places were closed and activities suspended. In Milan, a community centre was evacuated, while public parks were closed due to heavy downpours.

  • Further, two landslides in the province of Sondrio, Lombardy, resulted in road closures.

Over the next 48 hours, additional rain is forecast across Italy, mostly in northern and central regions.
