Italy - Severe weather (EMSR871, media, Civil Protection Italy, Aeronautica Militare) (ECHO Daily Flash of 2 April 2026)

  • Since 31 March, central and southern Italy have been hit by severe weather, with snow, heavy rain, flooding and landslides especially in Molise, Abruzzo and Apuglia, resulting in rescues and evacuations.
  • Media reports of 1 April, indicate a man was rescued after his car was swept away in Termoli, Molise and 40 evacuated from homes in Bordo di Coronata (Foggia).
  • Train services on the Pescara-Foggia line are suspended and the SS16 ‘Adriatica’ highway is closed due to the collapse of a bridge in Montenero di Bisaccia, SP 55 also closed as side effect.
  • On 1 April, the Copernicus EMS Rapid Mapping (EMSR871) was activated to map flood extent and damage, especially downstream of the Liscione dam, now at full capacity and discharging water downstream toward the industrial zone of the city of Termoli.
  • On 2 April, a red severe weather alert issued for parts of Abruzzo, Molise and Apuglia. Further rain is forecast for the next 48 hours.
