Heavy rainfall has been affecting southern Italy, particularly the Calabria region, since 17 March, causing flooding and triggering landslides that have resulted in evacuations and damage.
According to media, as of 18 March, at least 80 people have been preventively evacuated in the Crosia municipality of south-eastern Cosenza province due to a landslide. The overflow of the streams Trionto e Fiumarella damaged houses and roads. Road closures have also been reported in the municipalities of Corigliano, Mirto, Rossano, Calopezzati, Pietrapaola, and Mandatoriccio (Cosenza province), which have been the most impacted.
For the next 24 hours, more heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are forecast over the Calabria and Puglia regions.
