OPT: Resistance committee says committed to truce with Israel

GAZA, Jul 18, 2005 (Xinhua via COMTEX)

  • A spokesman for the Palestinian Popular Resistance Committee said on Monday that his group is committed to a truce with Israel.

Abu Abber told reporters that although the committee is committed to the truce, it will resume rocket attacks on settlements in case the Israeli army carried out incursions into the Gaza Strip.

He made the remarks after a meeting with Mustafa al-Beheiri, head of an Egyptian security delegation to mediate between Palestinian factions and the Palestinian National Authority (PNA).

If the Israeli army carried out a large-scale operation in the Gaza Strip, the only response will be intensive rocket firing at Jewish settlements, said Abu Abber.

The Egyptian delegation arrived in Gaza on Sunday and held a series of meetings with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas and leaders of Hamas and the Islamic Jihad.
