General Food Assistance
• WFP assisted over 4,400 resident beneficiaries (627 households) in the Al-Amal Centre (formerly Jed’ah 1 centre) in Ninewa Governorate with e-vouchers for food commodities. Additionally, WFP assisted over 38,000 Syrian refugees in nine camps across the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) and provided cash assistance to over 9,000 individuals (1,500 households) without civil documentation in Baghdad, Salah Al-Din, Kirkuk, Ninawa, Diyala, and Babel Governorates.
• In January 2025, WFP launched an emergency plan to address the arrival of 1,287 Iraqi returnees (339 households) from Northeast Syria and residing in AlAmal Center, increasing the overall beneficiaries supported by 54 percent (to 627 households (2,482 individuals). WFP is assessing the potential impact of new arrivals on the food security situation of the residents of Al-Amal centre as well as on in-camp Syrian refugees. Preliminary assessment indicate the urgent need for an immediate scale-up of food assistance to address the food security of those vulnerable populations and support reintegration efforts effectively.
Economic Empowerment, Livelihoods and Climate
• On 12 January, WFP and the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) signed a Letter of Cooperation (LoC) for the Smallholder Agriculture Revitalization Project (SARP). Within this framework, WFP will provide capacity building and institutional strengthening in climate information systems management; evaluate and identify potential sites for irrigation infrastructure development; identify social risks and formulate the social management plan; support on-farm and off-farm skill development of vulnerable populations and provide toolkits to enhance the livelihoods of smallholder farmers.
• WFP participated in a workshop hosted by the University of Anbar on revitalizing the local economy alongside international NGOs and key stakeholders. The workshop focused on the importance of partnerships across sectors to integrate scientific, technical, and financial efforts.
