UNWOMEN and High Council of Women Affairs, Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs for the launch of a women peace and security programme, with support from Government of Finland, sign a Memorandum of Understanding

20 July, 2016: The Minister of Interior H.E Karim Sultan Sinjari, the Minister of Labor, Social Affairs H.E. Muhammad Kader Hawdeyani, High Council of Women Affairs Pakhshan Zangana and Hiba Qasas UNWOMEN Country Director met today for the launch of a Women Peace and Security programme within the framework of the implementation of the National Action plan for Security Council resolution 1325 on women, peace and security and response to the urgent protection needs of women and girls who suffered the grave impact of displacement, violence and have been subjected to horrific forms of sexual and gender-based violence.

The program will extend protection services to women victims of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence through supporting 26 field offices of General Directorate of Combating Violence Against Women, Minister of Interior to extend services to victims. The programme will also support four shelters for women and girls victims of violence in Sulimanya, Dohuk, Erbil and Qarmian.

In partnership with High Council of Women Affairs and supporting civil society organization the program will intensify efforts for the advancement of women peace and security.
