Baghdad, Iraq, 29 August 2018 - The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq, Mr. Ján Kubiš, strongly condemns the terrorist bombing in the Al-Qaim area of western Anbar today that killed and injured a number of victims, including civilians. The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq extends its sincere condolences to the families of the deceased and wishes the injured a speedy recovery.

“Although Da’esh has been defeated on the battlefield, the terrorist organisation continues to pose a threat to peace in Iraq, using cowardly and indiscriminate attacks to terrorise people in an attempt to destabilise a country that is recovering from conflict,” Mr. Kubiš said. “An attack such as that carried out today is a reminder to Iraqis that the struggle for peace is not yet over. The resilience and unity of all Iraqis are key to thwarting the terrorists’ schemes and consolidating stability and achieving prosperity,” he added.
