Baghdad, Iraq, 4 November 2018 - The Special Representative for Iraq of the United Nations Secretary-General, Mr. Ján Kubiš, strongly condemns the cowardly bombings which targeted several residential areas of Baghdad and in Sadr City today, killing or injuring a number of civilians. The Special Representative extends his deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and wishes the injured a speedy recovery.

Mr. Kubiš urges the authorities to be extra vigilant to uncover the culprits and thwart further attacks.

"These heinous acts aim to break the spirit of the Iraqis, in particular Baghdadis who have started to enjoy the fruits of peace, and derail their country's steady progress towards stability, but the unity of the people and the decisive efforts of the security forces are certain to foil the terrorists' evil designs," the Special Representative said.
