SRSG for Iraq, Mr. Ashraf Qazi, condemns recent acts of extremist violence in Baghdad

Baghdad, 19 July , 2005 - The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG) Mr. Ashraf Qazi today condemned the recent killings and suicide attacks across the country.
"These are unacceptable acts of violence under any circumstances. These heinous acts are against the principles of Islam and the human values of all religions and beliefs, and must be condemned," said Mr. Qazi. He was referring to the recent acts of extremist violence, including today's drive-by shooting of Mr. Mijbil Sheikh al-Issa, a member of the Constitutional Drafting Commission, his colleague, Dr. Dahmen Hussein al-Jabouri and their driver. He also referred to the tragic events in the last week, including the victims at Musayyeb and the suicide attack in Baghdad al-Jadida, which together claimed hundreds casualties, including innocent children.

All UNAMI staff will observe a moment of silence with the Iraqi people on Wednesday, 20 July, 2005 at 1200 hrs.
