Baghdad - 3 December 2007 - The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG) Staffan de Mistura held a constructive meeting Sunday, 2 December with Iranian Ambassador to Baghdad, Mr. Hassan Kazemi Qumi. They discussed the need for continued positive Iraq / Iran engagement, as with all other neighbors of Iraq. They also discussed the possibility of increased Iranian support to Iraq's reconstruction under the International Reconstruction Fund Facility for Iraq (IRFFI).
During the meeting, Iranian Ambassador Qumi raised the issue of members of People's Mujahedeen Organization of Iran (PMoI), and whether the UN holds a position on the legality of their presence in Iraq. SRSG de Mistura, while not commenting on the issue of legal status, told Ambassador Qumi that he has no plans to meet with PMoI.
