EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Aid Gate Organization (AGO) conducted a comprehensive Rapid Market Assessment (RMA) in Sinuni, Sinjar, as part of the UNDP-funded "Community Security and Integration Process (CSIP) Socioeconomic Support for Vulnerable People in Sinjar, Sinuni Center" project. The primary aim of this assessment was to understand the local economic landscape, identify viable opportunities for sustainable livelihoods, and ensure that project interventions are closely aligned with the needs and demands of the local community.

Using a mixed-methods approach, the RMA incorporated a literature review, key informant interviews (KIIs), focus group discussions (FGDs), and household-level surveys. These methods provided a holistic understanding of market dynamics, community needs, and potential solutions for enhancing economic resilience and promoting sustainable development.

Key findings from the assessment revealed high levels of job satisfaction among those employed, high interest in vocational training, and challenges such as lack of capital, regulatory barriers, and competition. The demand for essential goods and services, vocational training, and sustainable business practices was evident, along with a strong community spirit favoring collaborative business efforts.

The assessment also highlighted the critical need for targeted support to enhance vocational skills, improve access to financial resources, and address regulatory challenges. The interest in renewable energy projects and sustainable practices indicated a positive outlook towards green energy solutions.

Based on these findings, the report recommends several actionable strategies:

  • Enhancing access to affordable credit and financial services for entrepreneurs.

  • Providing vocational training in areas such as digital marketing, carpentry, and solar panel installation.

  • Developing mentorship programs to support new and existing entrepreneurs, particularly focusing on women and youth.

  • Advocating for policies that streamline supply chain operations and promote sustainable business practices.
