People in Need

People in Need (PIN) is a Czech non-profit, non-governmental organization whose mission statement is to 'inspire a largeness of spirit in Czech society and around the world by helping others in need and by promoting democratic freedoms for all.' PIN is a major advocate of democratic inclusion both in the Czech Republic and abroad, and in its 13 years of existence, has administered over USD 74 million in 34 countries worldwide.

Following the fall of Saddam's regime, PIN came to Iraq and set up its main office in Al Amarah, Missan. PIN has carried out reconstruction works in educational and health sector facilities. PIN has also implemented series of projects in education, water and sanitation and health sectors. From the beginning of its presence in Iraq, PIN has been carrying out activities on capacity building of the Iraqi civic society. One of the goals of these activities is to share with Iraqi citizens the Czech and Easter European experience of the transition to democracy.

Capacity Building Sector

Training of Trainers for Iraqi CSO managers [funded by MFA]

In November and December, PIN organised in Amman Training of Trainers for Iraq CSO (civil society organization) managers. In the course of the three weeksessions, 13 participants with advanced experience in the CSO sector from the North, Centre and South of Iraq were trained by three Czech trainers. The training was composed of extensive lectures, tutorials as well as site visits. This training session was the first part of two-part training course. The second part will take place in June 2006 in Amman. In the period between the training sessions, participants are expected to engage in training activities in order to increase their practical experience.
