Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, condemned in the strongest terms the terrorist attacks which targeted Baghdad and some Iraqi governorates on Wednesday 13 June 2012, claiming the lives of scores of innocent people and leaving many others wounded.
The Secretary General expressed his sincere condolences to the families of the victims and his wishes of prompt recovery to the injured.
The Secretary General exhorted the different components of the Iraqi people to exercise restraint, preserve its unity and stand to the terrorist attacks aimed at bringing about sectarian strife in Iraq.
The Secretary General called on all Iraqi political blocks to shun their differences and give primacy to national interests with a view to thwarting the plans of the enemies of Iraq targeting the country’s national unity and cohesion.
The Secretary General also underscored the importance of sticking to the 2006 Makkah Document which rejects violence and extremism, and highlighted the need to hold a second extended meeting on the Makkah Document in Baghdad soon.
