‘Seville Conference a turning point to fix financing and reach the world’s most vulnerable’ – KSC President Sara Rashid

Seville, Spain – Kurdistan Save the Children (KSC) is participating in the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4), taking place from 30 June to 3 July 2025 in Seville, Spain. Represented by its President, Sara Rashid, KSC is engaging in critical global discussions on development financing and its impact on vulnerable children and communities.

Convened by the United Nations, the conference gathers governments, international institutions and civil society organizations to explore ways to create more inclusive, equitable and effective financing mechanisms that advance Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Ms. Rashid’s participation demonstrates KSC’s dedication to elevating the voices of children and families impacted by conflict and economic hardship across Iraq. Through its involvement, KSC intends to influence policy decisions that prioritize the needs of the most vulnerable populations.

“KSC values the opportunity to participate in international efforts aimed at strengthening development financing systems,” says Sara Rashid. “The outcome document for the Seville commitment is a stepping stone towards sustainable, financing for development. Advocating for investment in the areas of greatest impact is our priority- our children. Conferences like this also allow us to explore more innovative financing approaches for our region.”

She adds: “We are facing a $4 trillion gap globally, as estimated by the United Nations. We are significantly off track on many of the Sustainable Development Goals. There’s a common perception that Iraq is a wealthy country, but in reality, the resources available for development—especially for children—are still limited. Without bold financial commitments and systemic reform, vulnerable children will continue to be left behind. The Seville commitment must mark a turning point in how we approach and deliver development financing, especially in fragile and conflict-affected contexts.”

For over 30 years, KSC has been a leading force in defending the rights and well-being of children across Iraq. Its active participation at FfD4 marks a strategic advancement in KSC’s engagement with global decision-making forums, amplifying its influence in shaping development policies that prioritize the most vulnerable and work toward tangible, inclusive outcomes for every child.
