KSC Activates Contingency Planning in Response to Evolving Situation [EN/AR/KU]

Slemani, Iraq – June 18, 2025: Kurdistan Save the Children (KSC) is watching with deep alarm and consternation the rapidly escalating tensions in the region, and in particular, the ongoing bombardment targeting civilian areas.

As an organization dedicated to the protection and welfare of children and families, we are gravely concerned about the potential humanitarian consequences of this unfolding crisis. Iraq shares a 1,599-kilometer border with Iran, and along this frontier lie several reported nuclear facilities, further raising the stakes of any military engagement.

We wish to underscore that, in conflict, it is always the innocent—particularly children—who bear the heaviest burden. As such, we urgently call on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and to prioritize dialogue over violence before these tensions expand into a broader regional catastrophe.

In the meantime, KSC is taking proactive contingency measures. We are initiating rapid-response training for our frontline staff and volunteers to ensure they are fully prepared to provide emergency relief and protection services wherever and whenever needed. We also welcome coordination and collaboration with fellow NGOs and relevant government bodies to strengthen collective preparedness and maximize the effectiveness of our humanitarian response.

Our commitment remains firm: to stand with and for the most vulnerable, and to act swiftly and compassionately in their time of need.
