Tokyo (dpa) - Japan is giving around 5 million dollars to international aid organizations to cope with the war in Iraq, Japanese Foreign Minister Yoriko Kawaguchi said Thursday.

She said the donation to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the World Food Programme (WFP) may be increased if necessary.

Japan is also to send a medical team to Syria, where large numbers of refugees are expected to arrive as the war continues. dpa ln ao
