For nearly two decades Life for Relief and Development has worked to alleviate the suffering of people around the world, particularly in Iraq, which has endured great bouts of poverty.
Life's biggest ongoing project in Iraq is its Orphan Sponsorship Program. Over 1,000 orphaned boys and girls get regular assistance from Life, thanks to individual sponsors and partner organizations. This assistance is in the form of monthly food deliveries, new clothing, school supplies, healthcare, and vocational training.
In addition to the monthly food assistance that is given to orphans and the families they live with, Life, from time to time, makes special deliveries of food to those who are most in need of charity.
Recently, Life disturbed food baskets as well as hot meals to dozens of widows and orphans in Al-Rasheediyah, which is on the outskirts of Baghdad.
In a related project, 40 orphans from Baghdad were treated to a shopping trip to a clothing store. There, each orphan was able to pick out new clothes that matched their taste and style.
This method of assistance to orphans is common for Life as it gives the children a greater sense of dignity, independence, and confidence. The experience is very enjoyable for them as well.
The cost of an orphan sponsorship is $50 per month.
