POPULATION MOVEMENTS

  • Mosul: More than 9,000 families (54,000 individuals) are currently displaced as a result of ongoing military operations to retake Mosul, according to IOM-DTM Emergency Tracking. This marks an increase of 20,000 people (35%) during the week.

  • Hawiga: UNHCR Daquq camp received more than 600 people displaced from Hawiga and Debis from 10-12 November. Significant movement from Hawiga to Al Alam, at times via Shirqat, was also recorded. Displaced families are being accommodated in the host community and UNHCR is also prepared to receive new arrivals at its Al Alam camp, which has capacity for 500 families (3,000 people).

  • Kirkuk: Some 20 families from Baiji district were forced to leave Kirkuk Governorate on 11- 12 November and have fled to Tikrit. The families are staying with their relatives as they could not return to their area of origin in Baiji, where return is not possible due to the high level of destruction and serious risks. Some 168 displaced families in Salah al-Din Governorate have been expelled from Kirkuk since October.

UNHCR RESPONSE UPDATE

  • The majority of displaced families continue to arrive to the Iraqi Government’s Khazer camp, which received some 650 families (3,200 people) fleeing from Mosul city and the Gogachly area on 10-12 November. Most travelled by foot or in private vehicles to the frontline before being screened and transported by Iraqi forces to the camp. Khazer camp is currently accommodating some 2,450 families (14,300 people). Nearby UNHCR Hasansham camp is fully occupied, hosting more than 1,900 families (10,000 people). UNHCR conducts protection monitoring in both camps to identify people with specific needs and ensure they are referred to specialized assistance. UNHCR also provides core relief items to families in both camps; more than 2,600 kits of items such as blankets, mattresses, cooking stoves and rechargeable solar lights have been distributed to date.

Fighting is ongoing in the neighbourhoods of Mosul, including Adan, Intisar, Khadra, Samah and Tahrir, while the Iraqi forces reportedly retook Saddam neighbourhood, in the north of Mosul, on 10 November.
