CAMP BACKGROUND INFORMATION
As one of the East Mosul Camps (EMCs), Khazir M1 opened on 25 October 2016, in response to the humanitarian crisis that originated from the military offensive on Mosul City and surrounding areas. The camp hosts Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from the 13 villages surrounding the EMCs, including families with unresolved tribal and security issues that prevent their return. IDPs in Khazer M1 live in dire conditions, facing severe restrictions on their freedom of movement due to their sensitive profiles. Access to basic services, including education, health, and WASH are inadequate, posing significant protection risks and public health challenges. In Khazer M1, UNHCR provides IDPs with civil documentation support through its partner INTERSOS.
