CAMP BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Dawadia camp was established in January 2015 and hosts predominantly Ezidi Internally Displaced People (IDPs) who fled Sinjar in August 2014. UNHCR advocates for durable solutions for those in the camp, given the unsustainable living conditions for the long term, as IDPs live in caravans. IDPs in the camp indicate that to be able to return to their area of origin, security and law enforcement must be fully restored through institutions they trust, and they must have access to quality public services, adequate shelter, and livelihood opportunities. In addition, some indicate that they would prefer other durable solutions such as relocation in areas of displacement. As such, UNHCR is advocating for all durable solutions to be made available to the IDP population and that they have equal access to assistance packages available.
