Iraq: Mosul Humanitarian Response: Weekly Explosive Incidents Report (28 May - 3 June 2017)

May 28, 2017

• Popular Mobilization Forces with the help of Iraqi Air Forces liberated Al-Qahtaniyah subdistrict and Al-Jazeera Residential area both located in north of Sinjar district of Ninewa province.

• Peshmerga Forces repelled on ISIS attack in Hlewa village west of Tooz district in Salah Al-Din province, which resulted in casualties on both sides.

• Popular Mobilization Forces found and cleared VBIEDs, weapons, and mortar teams in Al-Qahtaniyah subdistrict, Al-Jazeera Residential area in Sinjar district of Ninewa province.

May 29, 2017

• Popular Mobilization Forces liberated Taru and Al-Maydar villages west of Al-Qahtaniyah subdistrict of Sinjar district of Ninewa province.

• Iraqi Military Forces found and cleared 3 huge factories containing 300 machines that manufacture rocket, 1000 mortars, and lots of C4 western side of Mosul city.

• Iraqi Military Forces killed 3 ISIS suicide bombers near Mosul’s third bridge on the western side of the city.

• An ISIS drone launched strikes on Al-Shirqat district of Salah Al-Din province, which killed a child and injured 7 other civilians.

• Coalition Military Forces launched a strike near Hawiga district of Kirkuk of province, which destroyed two vehicles.

• Coalition Military Forces launched a strike near Baiji district of Salah Al-Din province, which engaged an ISIS tactical unit, and led to destroy a vehicle, a VBIED facility, and a VBIED.

May 30, 2017

• Iraqi Air Forces launched strikes on ISIS in Ba’aj city, Al-Wahda village and Butha village in Ba’aj district of Ninewa province.

• Popular Mobilization Forces repelled an ISIS attack near Ba'aj district of Ninewa province.

• Iraqi Military Forces and Popular Mobilization Forces found and cleared 3 VBIEDs, IEDs, and mines in the liberated villages next to Iraq-Syria border west of Sinjar district, and in Al-Najar neighborhood western side of Mosul city of Ninewa province.

• Popular Mobilization Forces were able to stop 13 suicide bombers from attacking Tal Zalat village west of Mosul city in Ninewa province.

• Peshmerga Forces clashed with ISIS near Dabes district of Kirkuk province, which led to the death two Peshmerga Forces and injury of three others.

• ISIS kidnapped a civilian from Mashairfah village south of Dabes district of Kirkuk province.

May 31, 2017

• Popular Mobilization Forces liberated Al-A'ni village near Syrian-Iraqi border in Ba’aj district of Ninewa province.

• Iraqi Military Forces launched a surprise attack on ISIS in Mosul Al-Qadimah area western side of the city, very significant gains were achieved.

• Iraqi Military Forces found and cleared 23 thermal rockets and tens of VBIEDs in Al-Shifaa and Al-Zanjili neighborhoods western side of Mosul city.

• Coalition Military Forces launched three strikes near Baiji district of Salah Al-Din province, which engaged an ISIS tactical unit and destroyed a tactical vehicle, an ISIS staging area, and a front-end loader.

• Coalition Military Forces launched a strike near Telafar district of Ninewa province, which engaged an ISIS tactical unit and destroyed two ISIS-held buildings and an ISIS staging area.

June 01, 2017

• Popular Mobilization Forces liberated the Al-Sakar Residential area, and Al-Khibrah village south of Ba’aj city, they also controlled Jaer Ghalfas village west of Ba’aj city near Syria-Iraq border in Ninewa province.

• Popular Mobilization Forces cleared a minefield near Sheikh Ali village in Makhoul Mountains in Salah Al-Din province.

• Iraqi Military Forces found a mass grave in Al-Shifaa neighborhood which contained 60 civilians killed by ISIS western side of Mosul city in Ninewa province.

• Government Security Forces found and cleared an IED, which was planted on one of the oil pipelines in Bai Hassan oilfield in Kirkuk province.

• Coalition Military Forces launched a strike near Hawiga district of Kirkuk province, which destroyed three ISIS-held buildings and an IED factory

June 02, 2017

• Iraqi Military Forces liberated Al-Sihha neighborhood western side of Mosul city in Ninewa province.

• Popular Mobilization Forces liberated Jaer Ghalfas, and Al-Jaya villages, also Tal Safuk area all located west of Ba’aj city near Syria-Iraq border in Ninewa province.

• Iraqi Military Forces found and cleared 4 booby-trapped houses and 6 VBIEDs in Al-Zanjili neighborhood western side of Mosul city in Ninewa province.

• Iraqi Military Forces found 16 trucks filled with tons of C4 in 17 Tammuz neighborhood western side of Mosul city in Ninewa province.

• Coalition Military Forces launched a strike near Baiji district of Salah Al-Din province, which destroyed a mortar system.

June 03, 2017

• Popular Mobilization Forces liberated Al-Risalah Housing Complex south of Al-Qairawan subdistrict of Sinjar district of Ninewa province.

• Popular Mobilization Forces repelled an ISIS attack on Umm Gharba village in Hatra desert on the southern border of Ninewa province.

• Heavy clashes took place between Iraqi Military Forces and ISIS in Al-Zanjili neighborhood western side of Mosul city in Ninewa province, which led to the death of ISIS booby-trapping commander and seven of his followers.

• 75 civilians got killed and 150 were injured due to IEDs planted by ISIS on the streets of Al-Zanjili neighborhood and the areas around it on the western side of Mosul city in Ninewa province.
